San Lucas de Colán is a small town in northern Peru, known in the region for its beach tourism. The strong storms that have repeatedly hit the area have taken their toll on the coastal constructions as well as the local economy, which has seen a significant decline in tourist activity.
The tide is highly variable, and abandoned buildings near the shore are being eroded by the waves. In Colán, there is little to do: there’s the beach, but swimming can be dangerous due to stingrays. Visitors can take walks and admire the beautiful sunsets. Even the stray dogs seem to succumb to the slow pace, lying in the sand under the sun, indifferent to the passage of time.
Occasionally, some adventurous tourists brave the waters, laughing and enjoying themselves while taking pictures. Sometimes, that’s all one needs.
